Summary

Following government endorsement of the recommendations of the Review of the Corporate Governance of Statutory Authorities and Office Holders (the Uhrig Review) and 2 other reviews, the bill amends the

National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992
to: introduce new governance arrangements including establishing, from 1 July 2006, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) as a statutory agency subject to the
Public Service Act 1999
and the
Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997
; and clarify the accountability and reporting functions of the NHMRC. Also makes consequential amendments to 7 other Acts.
